summer reflection

With the unofficial end of summer in the rear view mirror, I thought it made sense to bring you up to speed on a bunch of stuff going on around these parts.

First, we have some new members of the TNNA board of directors. Melissa Prince of Melissa Prince Designs will be joining us as the new Needlepoint Group Chair, Courtney Kelley from Kelbourne Woolens is our new Yarn Group Chair and Jacqueline Sava from Soak Wash is a Board Member. Please join me in welcoming them aboard. We'll be saying goodbye to some old friends too. If you run into Pete Poitras or Stephanie Steinhaus, take a minute and thank them for their service.

There are a couple of fall events coming up that are pretty special. One that pops right to mind is Maker Faire in NYC on September 26-27. In case you aren't familiar with them, "Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned." TNNA will once again be there hosting The NeedleArts Zone – providing supplies and teaching crochet, cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, needlepoint, and spinning and weaving to hundreds of our future needle artist. If you are going to be in the neighborhood, you should stop in and check it out.

We're also excited to see the third annual Spinzilla happening Oct 5-11. This is a great program that has raised over $20K for the Needle Arts Mentoring Program (NAMP). We are so proud to see The Spinning and Weaving Group create this great event. It's so much fun for all the participants and at the same time raises awareness and money to promote needle arts everywhere. Well done!

If you haven't already, please don't forget that it's time to renew your membership. You should have received an email reminder, but if you haven't, you can go to and renew online. Easy peasy.

While I've got you... Mark your calendars for the show in San Diego on January 9-11. Registration opens for retail members on October 1st, for all others on October 8th. Along with the continuation of the Building Better Business education program, we're excited about the new Buyer Bucks program. And .... we have a few more things up our sleeves. You're not going to want to miss it!
