One of the hobbies I try to make time for is reading - sometimes to the detriment of other things, if the book is good enough! Though I often read a lot of novels, I also try to pick out a few nonfiction reads each month. The next time you head to your local library or open up your Kindle app, think about browsing to the business section along with the best-seller list. Why? Because taking a few minutes a day to read business books is an easy way to grow your business knowledge without a huge commitment.
One of the biggest struggles that I face in this situation is that once I start work for the day, I focus entirely on the tasks that make me money (working for clients) and the tasks that absolutely have to be done (financial tracking, paying taxes). So I often find myself checking out a great business book from the library and then having to return it before I’ve finished it, because I never made the time to read it. The easiest way for me to stop this cycle is to create the habit of reading - setting aside a specific time each day or week to educate myself and grow my business knowledge. Another tip is to have a list of books I want to read, so I don’t let myself leave the library without checking out at least one.
