I Love Yarn Day

I Love Yarn Day turns six on October 15 and, to celebrate, we're calling all fiber fans to share their affection for yarn and "stitch it forward" by teaching at least one newbie to knit, crochet, weave, spin or bomb. Whatever craft it may be – if it involves yarn, we know we love it, we know you love it and we know others will, too!

Spreading the good feeling people get from yarn and yarn-related crafts is what I Love Yarn Day (ILYD) is all about. And what better way for knitters and crocheters to spread that joy and pass on their love of the crafts than to stitch it forward and teach others?

On Saturday, October 15, through its social media platforms, the Craft Yarn Council will be encouraging knitters and crocheters around the world to stitch it forward by inspiring them to teach at least one other person how to knit or crochet and spread the joy of these crafts.

You may have noticed that ILYD falls on Rhinebeck weekend this year, one of the most "yarn-y" weekends on the calendar. Many shops on the East Coast lament that they lose customers this weekend to the festival, but just as many host special events in their stores to encourage those not attending the festival to treat themselves to something special on this yarn-filled weekend!

There’s no better time to encourage your customers to Stitch It Forward. Let’s share our love of the knitting community with others, and not only build the community, but build your customer base at the same time.

Whether you’re attending Rhinebeck or not, you can do your part for the industry – and your followers – to encourage them to open up the world of knitting to others. Share the “I Love Yarn Because..." template with your readers and encourage them to share their stories of how they found the knitting community on Instagram. Post a simple pattern that is perfect for teaching a newbie, and maybe even offer prizes to those who participate! The possibilities are endless.

Knitting Guilds and Groups

I Love Yarn Day is a great excuse for your guild or knitting group to host an event for the public. Share your love of knitting with others, and even enter a scavenger hunt to win fun prizes!

Capture photos of you and your group teaching yarn crafts as you stitch it forward and share your love of knitting/crochet with the people you love. Share photos on social media using the following hashtags: #StitchItForward #ILoveYarnDay.

Logos and Graphics

Post the I Love Yarn Day logo or banner ad on your Facebook page or website to raise awareness among your friends. Download artwork here!

Download the "I Love Yarn Because..." template and write about why you love yarn and take a selfie with it. Share your selfie on social media and make sure to include #ILoveYarnDay and #StitchItForward in your post.

I Love Yarn Day is all about showing your love for the community of knitters who help to build the industry we are all proud to be a part of. Do your bit this October to spread the love of crafts to others, and have some fun while doing it! For more ideas on how you can get involved, visit I Love Yarn Day.
