By now we’ve all, mostly, returned to business as usual after the January 2016 TNNA Winter Trade Show in San Diego. The show was great fun, and San Diego even got a bit of rain on Thursday and Friday which was welcomed by the locals with open arms!
TNNA and Yarn Group would like to say a big “THANK YOU!” to everyone who exhibited, attended, and took classes. The weekend was full of exciting new things, and our new Executive Director, Holli Bibler, and the TNNA staff did a great job sprucing up the look of the registration area and the lounges on the show floor.
Our Yarn Group events were a big success, and the fashion show had 40 garments from 16 companies. A few show-stoppers were Freia Fibers "You Look Gradient" scarf from Designer John Brinegar. John selected Freia Super Bulky for this quick knit cable scarf to be featured in his new book Cable Guys Volume 1….Cozy Knits for Modern Men.
XRX/Knitter’s Magazine featured four garments in the show from their upcoming new book, “Knit My Skirt,” by accomplished designer Candace Eisner Strick. We were really blown away by the flattering and wearable designs! This book is definitely one to look out for.
Lorna’s Laces new yarn String Quartet was featured in designer Stephanie Tallentt’s lovely shawl, "Isn't It Romantic," which was met with great applause at the show.
"Isn't It Romantic" was also on display in the Yarn Group Lounge on the show floor, where attendees were welcomed with comfy sofas to rest their feet during the long days at the marketplace.
Our Yarn Group Meeting was well attended, and you can click on the presentation below to see some of what you missed!
We had a number of new Yarn Group members in the audience, so I took the opportunity to explain a bit about what Yarn Group really is, and about what we can accomplish for our industry in the coming years. The mood was upbeat and fun, and we had a good Q&A session after the presentation.
Laura Zander, owner of Jimmy Beans Wool, presented a project she is working on for the upcoming film, Eddie the Eagle, starring Hugh Jackman. The film, featuring a mum as devoted to her son as she is to her knitting, is scheduled for release February 26th. Show your support by making your own Eddie the Eagle hat! The free pattern is available from Jimmy Beans Wool. To find out more about Eddie the Eagle, and the hashtag #iknitforeddie, visit Jimmy Beans Wool!
I didn’t have the final numbers for the show at the meeting, since the show wasn’t over yet, but I do now!
- Total Attendess: 777
- Total Exhibitors: 218
Overall, the number of both exhibitors and attendees was down from previous years (over the course of the weekend), although our initial number of opening day attendees was up over previous years. We can all attest to Saturday being the busiest day on the show floor! Thank you to everyone who exhibited at the show, and to all of you who attended to make our San Diego show a success!
We look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming show in Washington, D.C.!
