3 Ways to Show Customers You Care During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a great time to show your support for this important cause that affects so many women in the U.S. and worldwide. So instead of thinking spooky all month, let’s start thinking pink, too! As a small business, you might not have a chance to regularly contribute to this (or any other) foundation, so awareness months like these are a great way to show customers you care and do just that… even if in a small way. Read on for a few tips on ways you can show support this month through your retail business.
1. Stock Your Store
The great thing about stocking products that support a cause is that they live beyond October. Need some inspiration on what to stock your store with this month? Partner With Knitted Knockers
This program involves volunteer knitters and crocheters with breast cancer survivors to offer free Knitted Knockers to any woman who wants them. A “Knitted Knocker” is a comfortable knit prosthetic for a breast cancer survivor. The demand for these are very high, so starting a group at your local yarn store is a fantastic way to help change someone’s life and support this cause! There are thousands of groups already participating and the group helps stores find ways to donate, offers a participating store directory, provides pattern downloads and more.
Start With Social
We all know that social media is the best way to generate excitement and let your audience know what’s going on. A good way to support the cause without having to lift more than a finger on your keyboard is making an announcement. Donate a dollar (or an amount of your choosing) for each person that likes, comments or shares your Breast Cancer Awareness Month update. Then, your community can like or share to show they care!
At checkout for the remainder of the month, let your customers know that rounding up their purchase price to the next dollar means that change amount is donated to breast cancer research (or another cause of your choice). Each cent you round up can make a difference.
3. Be the Host With the Most
Also known as… donate! Host a weekend event where 100% (or any percentage) of proceeds are donated to supporting the cause. Or, invite customers in for a free class and charge a certain amount at the door to be donated. To add to either event, offer pink treats for attendees to enjoy while partaking or perusing.
As you can see, there are so many ways to participate in an important cause like this — or a handful of others.
