Kick off the holiday season with this precious and Pretty Partridge in a Pear Tree! The first of this new series from Brenda Stofft Designs sets the stage for a collection of creative and unique holiday stitching. The piece will include decorative stitching, needle felting, Stumpwork, several beading techniques and a delicate open background stitch.  Come learn how to achieve success and confidence with some of the hottest techniques in the current world of needlepoint. Your phone is a fabulous camera, and you can make professional looking images ready to upload within minutes. All you need is a few tips and some simple editing apps. Learn to use  powerfully creative apps to up your phone photo game. We'll create images that stand out on social media, Ravelry, and explore creating a signature look for your photos and feeds. Gale will demo live shooting and editing images, and students will have hands on time to try out techniques in class.

Short Rows Three Ways

Class Supplies: Please bring small amounts (20 g) of worsted or dk wt wool in contrasting colors. Needles in gauge appropriate yarn, scissors, and blunt tapestry needle.

Fear of short-rows haunts many advanced beginner knitting.  Help them overcome this fear of an essential knitting skill.  Short rows are like puzzle pieces; they add shaping, curves or soft angles into your knitting without increasing or decreasing.  Explore several different techniques for making and keeping track of short rows. You will learn three methods: Wrap and Turn, Japanese, German.  In class we will use the technique to explore how they are used in design, by creating a small ball for your (or your cat’s) entertainment.  Catnip included for those who want it!


The Secrets of the Most Successful Needlework Shops & How to Apply Them in Your Store

Techniques include: double ribbon embroidery to create ribbon flowers, multiple beading techniques, darning patterns and open work backgrounds. We’ll discuss how to add motion to your canvas.

Wonder how to make your feed more fun and powerful?  It’s no secret that social media conversations influence customer purchases, and with Instagram cited as one of the most downloaded apps in the past year, it’s increasingly important to make the most of this platform. 

In this workshop, we’ll: 

  • Provide an overview of this compelling and visually exciting app
  • Look at why hashtag  #KnittersofInstagram has over 2.5 million posts
  • Examine how to effectively use Stories to attract and stay in touch with your customers
  • Share how to create a consistent feed to foster a positive impression

Josie is an explosion of color. You have to love her fancy tail and top knot.  

Join as we stitch this new Mile High Princess canvas. Class attendees receive a detailed stitch guide and charts organized to augment a shop owner’s teaching skills. They include an area map of the canvas to make following easier for you and your customers regardless of stitching abilities.    

You will learn new twists created from familiar stitches, threads, and embellishments fitting a Las Vegas girl. The design uses bullion knots, sprat’s head, detached buttonhole and more. Does your shop attract both knitters, crocheters and sewers? Bring them all in with a button class. You don’t need to be able to sew or have any special skills to make distinctive buttons to match your sweater or jacket perfectly.  In class you will make two kinds of buttons weaving with yarn and a tapestry needle, Yorkshire Buttons and Dorset Buttons. These 19th century buttons were made as a cottage industry before mass produced buttons were available.


Creating an Open-To-Buy: How Much to Spend and When to Spend It

Class Supplies: Bring totals for gross sales, cost of goods and ending inventory by month for prior year, calculator, pen or pencil for taking notes.

An open-to-buy report should be utilized by every retailer, but very craft-enthusiast retailers know what one is, let alone use one. Luckily, the process is relatively easy learn and implement you just need a few key business numbers.

  • Learn when to schedule inventory purchases to match customer buying cycle.
  • Create a systematic method for managing inventory from season to season.
  • Determine your "optimal" inventory level and an effective and reasonable mechanism for achieving that goal.
  • Invest a few hours and discover the transformation an open-to-buy report makes for your business.

A study in Circles: one of the hardest things to stitch on a needlepoint canvas is circles. I will teach the 3 different circular  techniques that can be used many times over when stitching any round designs on canvas. Dimension, texture, and perspective will be used to enhance the 3-dimenisional  aspects of needlepoint. Many techniques used on this canvas will be translatable to many other projects.

Class Supplies: Students will need to bring embroidery scissors, laying tool, brass tacks, 12x12" stretcher bars and any other stitching supplies they would normally use. Stitchers should bring extra lighting if needed.

The Kirk and Bradley English Wildflower Basket is one of the newest additions to their line of Thoroughly English Needlepoint, designed specifically for this class. Ribbon work techniques are done in a variety of width ribbons from River Silks. Other threads used include Planet Earth Fibers, Rainbow Gallery, and beads from Sundance Designs. Ribbon techniques will use River Silks Ribbon. It’s certainly a class your customers will love for you to share with them!
